Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue received a call in reference to a structure fire in the 8400 block of State Route 303 on Monday, Nov. 24, at approximately 4:06 p.m.
Upon arrival crews observed flames coming through the roof on the left side of the single family, single story residence. The call was quickly upgraded to a second alarm and KCSO was dispatched to help with traffic control. All lanes of the highway were shut down in both directions and remain closed at this time.
Firefighters entered the residence and conducted a primary search of the first floor and the basement. The residence appears to be uninhabited, but there is evidence of previous squatters in the basement.
The County Fire Marshal is on scene to investigate the cause of the fire and Puget Sound Energy was also dispatched to deal with live wires.
The fire is extinguished and firefighters are checking for hot spots.
Navy Region Northwest responded as mutual aid.
Although the residence appears to be vacant the fire department always like to remind residents to check your smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms and a home fire escape plan can save lives.
