While cards and flowers are always popular gifts, Kitsap Mall wants daughters to get their moms a little something more for Mother’s Day.

Kitsap Mall is hosting its first-ever Mother’s Day contest and mall spokeswoman Yvonne Tomascak is looking for three mother-daughter teams to compete for the top prize.

Tomascak said the first three mother-daughter teams who sign up in-person at Kitsap Mall guest services will compete in the Mother’s Day makeover competition. Each daughter will receive a $450 Kitsap Mall gift card to shop and give their moms complete makeovers.

“The makeover could include hair and makeup if they want it to,” Tomascak said.

The three daughters will reveal the moms’ new looks April 24 and the before and after makeover photos will be posted on the Central Kitsap Reporter Web site for the public to vote on the best look. Online voting at www.centralkitsapreporter.com runs from May 1-10. The winner will be announced Monday, May 11.

Tomascak said Kitsap Mall typically hosts a Mother’s Day event, but decided to turn it into a contest this year.

“I think the contest will get more people involved,” Tomascak said.

Tomascak said she focused the contest specifically on mothers and daughters in order to get the pairs to spend more time together.

“I think it’ll give them some quality time together,” Tomascak said. “They will focus for once on the mom instead of the daughter and allow the daughter to give back and say ‘thank you.’”

Each mom will get to keep the clothing and accessories purchased by their daughters.

“With the way the economy is, we figured we could at least help out three moms,” Tomascak said.

The team with the most online votes will receive a $150 Kitsap Mall gift card.

“For that person, that’s $600 — that’s nothing to laugh at,” Tomascak said.

Mother-daughter teams may sign up for the Mother’s Day makeover contest at Kitsap Mall guest services. The daughters must be at least 14 years old.
