POULSBO — Get ready for more construction delays on Viking Avenue. Starting April 19 improvements will begin on south Viking Avenue just below the Bovela Lane intersection and ending at the south city limits.

Traffic will be limited to one-way between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Construction has been planned in two sections, totaling 1,800 linear feet.

Preparations have been made to ensure traffic for May’s festivities — Viking Fest and Viking Cup — will not be hampered.

The contractor will not be working on the Friday, Saturday, or Sunday of Viking Fest weekend (May 14, 15 and 16) and will also not be working the Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of Viking Cup/Memorial Day weekend (May 28 to 31).

“The road will be open to two-way traffic 100 percent of the time during these event weekends,” Ryan Farncomb, the project assistant for the engineering department, said.

Construction will be completed by October and will mirror the improvements made on North Viking Avenue.

The improvements are part of a citywide project to improve Poulsbo’s gateways.

Main gateways into Poulsbo include Viking Avenue and State Route 305.
