Citizens United for Silverdale, the group pushing for cityhood, has decided on a proposed boundary and will begin the process with the county.

Backers of the plan hope to have the proposal for voters by spring 2012.

A public information meeting is scheduled for March 29 from 7 to 8 p.m. at fire station #51, 10955 Silverdale Way NW, Silverdale.

After a February meeting with Island Lake residents, the group has decided to not include east Island Lake residents as part of a proposed city of Silverdale, said Marcus Hoffman, a member of the group.

“We can have Silverdale determine its own future,” Hoffman said.

Other than slicing out that northeast portion of the Silverdale urban growth area, the proposed boundaries will be the same as the growth area, he said. They are in the process of working with a surveyor to finalize a legal description in order to inform the county of their intent to incorporate, Hoffman said Wednesday, adding that he expects that to be done in about a week. Once the group files, the Kitsap County Boundary Review Board has 30 days to hold a public meeting to address options of service providers, such as fire and police protection, and benefits of different municipal systems. The review board can also adjust the boundary from the initial proposal. The group envisions the proposed city to operate under a council-manager system where residents would vote on seven city council members. Signatures from 10 percent or more of registered voters within the boundaries are also needed for approval.
