POULSBO — While he won’t clean up your messes for you, Eugene Madayag can give you the right supplies to zap that stain or stench.
The manager of the six-month-old Peninsula Cleaning Supply provides cleaning items for residential and commercial buildings and is, surprisingly, the only one of this kind in Kitsap County.
While there are nearly 150 janitorial, carpet and residential cleaners in the county, those business owners usually have to pick up their supplies in Tacoma, Renton or Kent, Madayag said.
Peninsula Cleaning Supply provides cleaning chemicals, paper products, soap, dispensers, mops and other basics to businesses all over Kitsap County.
The small office on Stottlemeyer Road is filled with products that can be used to put a shine on everything, from Clorox bleach and Mr. Muscle to industrial sized, industrial strength cleaning chemicals.
“I use a lot of this stuff at home,” Madayag said, noting he uses Mr. Muscle to clean his barbecue.
Another service of the company, one Madayag plans to increase after the first of the year, is to regularly check with customers on their supplies and set up a regular day to drop off orders. Right now, he provides them on an as-needed basis.
He also delivers free in Kitsap County.
The company started after one of the local janitorial business owners, Rick Burgess, began providing his clients with extra paper and supplies aside from his cleaning services. After about two months, Burgess decided to start Peninsula Cleaning Supply.
“I’ve been doing cleaning forever and it didn’t seem like anyone was offering anything like this, not at this time,” Burgess said. “It seemed to make sense at the time.”
So far, the response from the county’s cleaning and janitorial industry has been positive.
“They love us,” Madayag said. “They like that we can get some of the commercial chemicals.”
Having carpet cleaning supplies and equipment has been a bonus, too, he said.
“It was a risky deal because I wasn’t sure if it was going to make it or not out here,” Madayag said about taking the reins on the shop.
But he liked the idea of running a business and hopes to create a partnership with Burgess some day.
