A 26-year-old Keyport woman called police Aug. 5 after finding a hole cut into her bedroom wall.
She suspected her neighbor whose shop is located on the other side of the wall. In preparing to move, the woman found the approximately 1-inch-by-1-inch hole behind a large mirror. The paint had been scratched off the back of the mirror allowing someone to see through it, but unnoticeable on the front of the mirror. Sheriff’s deputies also found a surveillance camera with tape on it that appeared it had been positioned in the hole in the wall and connected to a video recorder.
Deputies spoke with the shop renter who said her 42-year-old boyfriend uses the shop occasionally. The woman, who is nine months pregnant with the man’s third child, told them she was very embarrassed by what they had discovered. Deputies questioned the man who admitted he cut holes in the wall because he heard yelling and talking and wanted to “see what was going on.”
He was arrested and booked into jail for voyeurism and burglary and later released.
