Kingston Chamber organizes free summer concerts

Mike Wallace Park will be the “in place to be” this summer with free Saturday night summer concerts presented by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce.

The fun begins Thursday, June 30, with the opening of Harbor Days and Paddle Kitsap. The paddler’s meeting begins at 6 p.m. along with the opening of the Rotary Beer Garden. The Kingston High School Jazz Ensemble will kick off this great weekend.

The paddlers leave Kingston on Friday morning after a breakfast prepared by community volunteers. They launch at Port Gamble with stops at Hansville and Eglon before they return to Kingston that afternoon. The paddlers will enjoy a catered dinner by Little City Catering on Friday evening with music by John Becker, Joey Craig, and the Lemolo Band. For more info on Paddle Kitsap, see www.Paddlekitsap.com.

Saturday evening begins the summer concert series with the opening performance by Scotty Anderson and the House of Cards. This concert, along with a strawberry shortcake festival, is sponsored by the Kingston Kiwanis.

On Sunday, Aug. 2, Paw-Fest arrives at Mike Wallace Park. This popular pet festival and adoption fair is in its second year and promises to provide fun for two- and four-footed friends. There will be demonstrations, contests, and activities for both man and dogs. To get more info, visit PAW-Fest.com.

The summer concerts will continue through August with a variety of performances including Locust Street Taxi, The Blues Counselors, Elvis-Memories of a King, the Kingston High School Jazz Ensemble and the Buz Whiteley Band.

The Rotary Beer and Wine Garden will be open at 6 p.m. on concert evenings. Food vendors, including Mike’s Four Star BBQ, the Hot Dog Guys, and Rib Shack 7, will also open at 6:00 and provide more substantial food.

So grab a quilt or a folding chair and head on down to Mike Wallace Park. The concerts take place rain or shine, but not even a sprinkling of raindrops can dampen the fun at the Port of Kingston.
