KINGSTON — A Kingston man has been charged with vehicular assault after his car crashed and injured two passengers.

Alcohol is suspected to have played a part in the crash, according to a report by the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office.

John David Aguayo, 21, of Kingston was charged with vehicular assault after his car, a 2001 Toyota Camry, crashed into a utility pole on Eglon Road on Feb. 20. Aguayo had two passengers in the car.

Aguayo’s blood-alcohol level at the scene allegedly registered as .142 on a portable breath test, administered by sheriff’s office deputies.

The car was traveling eastbound on Eglon Road at 5:30 p.m. but was traveling too fast to negotiate a turn at an intersection with Pilot Point Road. The car crashed into the pole, turned over onto its passenger side, and came to rest against a fence long the side of the road. The utility pole fell over into the roadway.

Aguayo told deputies that he applied his brakes as the car sped to the top of a hill, but nothing happened, according to the report.

A 21-year-old passenger was in the front passenger seat, and a 24-year-old passenger was in the left rear seat. Both were injured and transported to Harrison Medical Center. The passenger in the rear was not wearing his seatbelt and received 11 stitches for a laceration on his forehead. The rider in the front complained of elbow pain at the crash scene.

Aguayo’s driver’s license was suspended at the time of the crash. He was booked into the Kitsap County Jail for vehicular assault. Bail was set at $10,000.
