BREMERTON — A 51-year-old Kingston man with a felony escape warrant was arrested on Sept. 3.
Gregory Duhon was booked into Kitsap County Jail for the warrant and first-degree reckless burning, according to charging documents from Kitsap County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Bail is set at $50,000.
The arrest followed an investigation into multiple fires in Bremerton on Aug. 8, including a fire that caused an estimated $250,000 in damage to a home on Chester Avenue.
At 5:12 p.m. on Aug. 8, Bremerton Fire and police responded to the structure fire on Chester Avenue. A witness told investigators that she thought someone set off fireworks, which could have started the fire, according to charging documents.
Duhon was working at the home that caught fire and in the basement of a dance studio located near the home, according to the documents.
Duhon denied any involvement in using fireworks recently. However, a resident of the home that caught fire told investigators he saw Duhon with fireworks a day or two before the fires, according to the documents.
According to the resident, on Aug. 27 Duhon admitted he started the fire by lighting fireworks near the building, but that Duhon claimed it was an accident. After Duhon was arrested on Sept. 3, he admitted throwing a firecracker near the home that caught fire, according to the documents.
Based on evidence, Duhon also started fires in the alley of the 1200 block of 4th and Burwell streets with fireworks, according to the documents. Duhon was arrested approximately one year ago for reckless discharge of fireworks; he was caught shooting fireworks over moving vehicles on Wheaton Way, according to the documents.
Duhon will appear in court Sept. 16.
