KINGSTON — Oh yes, the rumors are true — some of Kingston’s most active community members and businessmen will be appearing in a calendar that will inspire smiles, laughs and possibly a few cat-call whistles from local women.

The Kingston Revitalization Association is putting together a calendar that features the “nude” men with strategically-placed props while posing in various scenic spots around Kingston, including The Old Schoolhouse (with model Jack Minert), the fishing pier (with model Dick Nowak) and Jefferson Point (with model Dave Mueller).

Some residents have already witnessed some of the recent photo shoots directed by Kingston resident and photographer Sally Christy.

“It’s been a scream,” she said with a laugh about working with the 18 Kingstonites who agreed to pose for the calendar. Christy said sessions started off slowly as the men were a bit shy about stripping to their shorts but some of them quickly became comfortable with the project, suggesting different places or ways to pose.

The idea was the brainchild of KRA member Bob Fellers, who brought a similar calendar to a KRA meeting last year. His son in Homer, Alaska created one as a charitable fund-raiser.

KRA members toyed with the idea until they met Christy and realized the concept could become a reality to help raise money for the group.

“(The movie) the ‘Calendar Girls’ had success with it and (Fellers’ son) had success with it, so why not us?” asked calendar model and KRA treasurer Ron Muell, who posed as one of KRA’s flower basket waterers while sitting in the Port of Kingston tractor in Mike Wallace Memorial Park.

“I wanted to be in it. You can’t have a Kingston calendar without me in it,” Muell said on why he wanted to participate.

Christy is almost finished with the photos and the men still have to be assigned months but curious residents can expect to start seeing the 18-month calendar locally this summer.
