Kingston Port Commission makes director candidate an offer

Port of Kingston employees will know in a few days if they have a new executive director. An offer to one of the finalists was sent Nov. 18.

KINGSTON — Port of Kingston employees will know in a few days if they have a new executive director.

An offer to one of the finalists was sent Nov. 18.

Interim director Steve Hyman said it could be a few days before the port knows if the finalist has accepted the position. The person has five business days to respond, Hyman said. Port commissioners held a special meeting the morning of Nov. 18 to make the decision. Port Commissioner Walt Elliott said he was not comfortable identifying the individual selected for the position until that person accepts the offer.

The port had more than 40 candidates for the position. The field was narrowed down to five, Elliott said.

The new port manager will succeed Kori Henry, who took a job with the North Kitsap School District. As port manager, Henry was paid $29 an hour. She managed a$1 million budget and a staff of nine.
