KINGSTON — After multiple reports of gunshots heard in Kingston today, three schools in the North Kitsap School District were placed on temporary lockdown.
Kingston High School, Kingston Middle School and Gordon Elementary were placed under lockdown “as a precautionary measure,” according to an email sent out by the district. Law enforcement provided an all-clear just before noon. According to the email, schools are “operating as normal again.”
Along with other calls from the public, Kingston High School campus security called law enforcement, informing them gunshots were heard from the campus, according to NKSD’s Director of Communications Robyn Chastain.
Chastain does not know when the last time schools were placed into a precautionary lockdown. However, various drills are performed on campus throughout the school year for emergencies such as this.
Calls to Kitsap County Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson have not been returned.
