KINGSTON — A Kingston High School student may be charged with assault after a fight with another student in the boys’ locker room Feb. 18.

The fight sent a student, described as the “victim” in a sheriff’s report, to Harrison Medical Center. The student cited head and neck pain; bruising and swelling around the face and eyes was observed by a Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputy, according to the report.

The student described as the suspect in the report is on juvenile probation, according to information provided to the sheriff’s office by high school staff.

The investigation continues with the sheriff’s office interviewing witnesses before the report can be sent to the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

Neither student is being identified because they are juveniles.

When the sheriff’s deputy arrived on scene Feb. 18, the alleged victim was being treated by North Kitsap Fire & Rescue. The suspect was in an office with an ice pack on one hand and swelling below the right eye.

The deputy could not get witness statements at the time because school was out and students were already heading home, according to the report.

The fight was the culmination of a string of confrontations between the two boys.

The suspect admitted he went to the alleged victim’s house to confront him on Feb. 15. The suspect said the alleged victim had been insulting him, and the suspect warned him to stop or they would get into a fight, the report states.

The suspect was contacted by the sheriff’s office after he left the alleged victim’s house and was told the two should stay away from each other.

According to the alleged victim, the fight in the locker room began when the suspect allegedly “sucker punched” him in the head. The suspect allegedly continued to punch him.

According to the suspect, the fight in the locker room began when the alleged victim made fun of him, saying he had showed up at the house with a bunch of friends to back him up. The alleged victim then slammed him into the wall, according to the report. The fight continued with both teens throwing punches.

The fight in the locker room followed previous verbal confrontations, according to information provided by the victim and the victim’s mother.

Threatening text messages from the suspect to the alleged victim were reported to 911 on Feb. 14, according to the report. A deputy responded to the call, but cleared the call without a report, sheriff’s office spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson.
