KINGSTON — It’s a good thing the Port of Kingston takes excellent care of the grass at Mike Wallace Memorial Park, because there is going to be a lot of entertaining taking place there in August.

Kingston Tunes on Tuesday is returning to the area, starting next week, featuring a local band or variety act every Tuesday throughout the month of August.

“We’re about providing recreation to families and communities in the county,” said recreation coordinator for Kitsap County Facilities, Parks and Recreation Toni Fuller. “We solicit sponsorships so, in turn, we can provide this level of entertainment at no charge.”

Sponsors include Kitsap County Parks and Recreation, Port of Kingston, Kingston Chamber of Commerce and John L. Scott Real Estate.

The bands/acts this year are:

• Aug. 2: Toneblasters (blues rock band)

• Aug. 9: Joey Dean (acoustic rock guitar solo)

• Aug. 16: Buck and Elizabeth (family variety)

• Aug. 23: The Drive (classic rock band)

• Aug. 30: Kevin Wolfe (magician and hypnotist)

Each event will be from 6:30-8 p.m. at the park and is free. Residents can bring lawn chairs, blankets and food to make an evening out of it.

People tend to enjoy the shows because of the cheerful atmosphere, Fuller said.

“I think overall when I see people’s faces, it feels good, it makes people happy to see others happy,” she said. “I think that’s what radiates from everyone’s faces and smiles and their whole beings. It takes their minds off some of the bad things that are happening in the world.”
