KINGSTON — A watchful resident helped put an end to a burglar’s effort to steal from a neighbor’s home last weekend.

John Charles Troiano Jr., 47, of Bremerton was arrested Oct. 26 after allegedly breaking into a home on Jefferson Point Road and running from a sheriff’s deputy investigating the scene.

A homeowner called 911 to report a van in her driveway shortly before 9 p.m. on Oct. 26. A sheriff’s deputy arrived to find Troiano in the van attempting to back out of the driveway.

Troiano fled from his vehicle, according to the arrest report, and ran despite the deputy identifying himself and instructing Troiano to stop. The deputy called after the suspect as he chased him several hundred yards.

The deputy caught up with Troiano and detained him. Troiano reportedly told the deputy that he used a knife to cut through a window screen at a home neighboring the caller’s home. He allegedly took several tools from the home and placed them into his van.

Deputies found the items in the van, along with a glass pipe with a small bag containing a white crystalline substance. The pipe and the bag tested positive for methamphetamine.

Deputies also found two knives, black gloves, a black stalking cap, pepper spray and several small flashlights on Troiano.

Troiano was booked into the Kitsap County Jail on charges of residential burglary. Bail was set at $200,000.
