Kingston’s Selvidge to compete in state poetry finals

Kingston High School student Quinton Selvidge will compete in the Poetry Out Loud state finals Saturday, March 20, at South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia. The contest begins at 1 p.m. Selvidge won a trip to the state finals after becoming one of 12 students throughout Washington to qualify at regional finals in January. Students in the competition must recite a poem they have chosen from an anthology of classic and contemporary works. The winner of the state finals will receive $200 and an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete at the national finals April 25-27. The winner’s school will also receive a $500 stipend to buy poetry books.
