Twenty six of Kitsap County’s nonprofit organizations are recipients of grants awarded by the Kitsap Community Foundation.
According to Kol Medina, the foundation’s executive director, there were a total of 84 grant applications.
“Over $300,000 was requested but we were only able to fund about $90,000 worth of grants. It’s difficult to have to turn down so many deserving grant applications,” stated Medina in a press released.
Following is a list of the grants that were awarded:

In addition, six local students were awarded scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year ranging from $800 to $1,000 in amount.
Charles and Dorothy Martell Family Music Scholarship: Sophia Stoyanovich won $980. This scholarship is awarded to a 2014 Kitsap County graduating high school student wishing to continue music education beyond high school. This scholarship was established by the children of Charles and Dorothy Martell to honor their parents.
Fred & Marvel Hill Scholarship: Lauren Wolbaum won $800. This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior of the North Kitsap School District who is accepted by a college, university, trade or vocational school. This scholarship was created to honor Fred and Marvel Hill.
Nova Group Scholarship: Alexander Derry won $1,000. This scholarship is awarded to a Kitsap County high school senior who intends to pursue a degree in engineering or construction management.
Kitsap Children’s Musical Theatre (KCMT) Scholarship: Havilah Criss, Lauren Wolbaum, Sheridan Prince won $1,000 each. This scholarship is awarded to students who have participated in the Kitsap Children’s Musical Theatre program. This scholarship was established in memory of Michael Riedel in honor of his dedication and contributions to KCMT.
