Kitsap County commissioners will consider whether to close a portion of Schold Road NW to vehicular traffic when they meet at 5:30 p.m. today.

The commission will meet in the Commission Chambers of the Kitsap County Administration Building, 619 Division St., Port Orchard.

Commissioners are being asked to adopt a resolution that calls for the last 1,450 feet of Schold Road NW  in the Silverdale area to be closed on a permanent basis. It is not now used for through traffic or local access and will be removed for floodplain restoration.

The public will be allowed to voice their concerns about the closure during a public hearing which is schedule during the meeting.

According to county public works, an alternate trail route and foot bridge will be built to accommodate pedestrian travel currently utilizing the road and a turnaround will be built and maintained at the point of the road closure.

All property owners will maintain their current access to their properties on the remaining section of Schold Road NW.

The cost of the project is estimated to be $20,000 for time and materials.

Two other public hearings on use of open space at 3210 Woods Road East, Port Orchard, and an ordinance for a 180-day interim agricultural signage through Nov. 9, will be held.

Meetings are open to the public and there is a general public comment time scheduled as well.
