Due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the county has extended the deadline to apply for conservation futures funding for the acquisition of parks and open space until Aug. 30.
Up to $100,000 per project is available after the board of commissioners approved in January a one-time process for local municipalities and nonprofits to acquire open land, farm and agriculture property or timberland for public use. Applications will be scored against a number of different factors, including public access opportunities and the inclusion of the acquisition in regional preservation plans.
Funding decisions will be made by the county commissioners in January 2021, with up to $300,000 in total to be awarded.
