If you’re one of those 12th men who like to be with others — and not at home in your own living room watching the game — there’s places throughout Central Kitsap County that are offering special Super Bowl events on Sunday.
Among them is Hales Alehouse in Silverdale, 10315 Silverdale Way NW. The party’s set to begin at 2:30 p.m.
“We’re going to have a party,” said Shane O’Dell, bar manager. “We’ve got special food and drink prices and we’ve got some great give-aways.”The place will offer competitive games during breaks in the action and prizes include Hale’s brand shirts, gift certificates, including one for $100 to the Metropolitan Grill in Seattle, and a trip to Las Vegas.
The place can hold up to 300 people and has televisions “everywhere,” he said.
“You can see the game from every section of the restaurant and bar,” O’Dell said.
There’s no reservations needed and they’re hoping the fill the place.
Across the way at Red Robin, 10455 Silverdale Way NW, customers will be able to watch the game, even though there are no special plans.
“It’s usually our slowest day of the year,” said Emily Heffner, bartender. “Generally, our customers are at home or at friends watching the game.”
But despite that, the three TVs in the bar and the four TVs in the restaurant will be tuned to the Super Bowl.
At Silver City Restaurant, 2799 NW Mhyre Road, Silverdale, there will be food and drink specials offered on Super Bowl Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. But the place will close at 3 p.m. for employees to watch the Super Bowl.
As for who will win the game, here’s a few comments from locals:
“I predict the Seahawks will win. I think it will be a surprise for many, but I think they can do it,” said Roger Zabinski, Port of Bremerton Commissioner. “I will be wearing blue/green team colors.”
“The county is proud to be flying the 12th Man flag on the Kitsap County Administration Building and public works annex this week in support of our Seahawks and local fans,” said Linda Streissguth, Kitsap County Commissioner, District 3. “Many employees are sporting their blue and green, and flying flags in their departments as well. My prediction is 24/17 — Seattle – GO HAWKS.”
“I will be watching the Seahawks take the win from work (Bremerton Fred Meyer) and hosting an employee super bowl party,” said Axel Strakeljahn, Port of Bremerton commissioner.
“I was born a Washingtonian and have been a Seahawks fan my whole life,” said David Young, Clear Creek Elementary second grade teacher and building technology coordinator. Young said his students have been playing a song video he made for “What The Hawk Say” song by Bob Rivers every Friday throughout the season.
“I put the words to the song up so the kids could sing along with it,” he said. “Since we have been playing the song the Seahawks have only lost once. We even did the video for the whole school assembly right before winter break. It is our class good luck song.” His prediction: Seahawks win 24 – 18.
And then there’s Shannon Montgomery, a local school teacher.
“My husband and I are huge fans,” she said. “I have been a fan since I was a kid watching with my dad. We couldn’t really afford to go to games then.Now my husband and I have season tickets. We’ve been going to every game since 2004. We are even going to the Super Bowl this weekend.”She predicts a close game.
“Of course, I am picking the Hawks to win,” she said. “I think that the defense will hold the Broncos to mostly field goals and I am hoping for another huge play from Thomas and Sherman that rocks the stands.”
Superstitions? She has some.
“We wear everything Seahawks blue and green,” she said. “Everything. From nail polish and eye shadow to boxers and socks. We always wear Seahawks gear the entire weekend of a game.”
