An interactive map from the New York Times shows that Kitsap County is in the top one-fifth of more than 3,000 counties in the U.S. for easiest places to live.

According to the Times, rank is based on six factors: education (percentage of residents with a bachelor’s degree), median household income, unemployment rate, life expectancy and obesity.

According to the article, Kitsap County ranked 612nd out of the 3,135 counties in the nation with 28.9 percent have a college education, 7.4 percent are unemployed and 35 percent are considered obese. The median income is $61,776. Life expectancy is 79.1 years and the 1.3 percent of people in the county are disabled.

Neighboring Pierce County was ranked 1,370th and Mason County ranked 1,691st. King County was 135th and Jefferson County was 770th.

The 10 lowest counties in the country, by this ranking, include a cluster of six in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky (Breathitt, Clay, Jackson, Lee, Leslie and Magoffin), along with four others in various parts of the rural South: Humphreys County, Miss.; East Carroll Parish, La.; Jefferson County, Ga.; and Lee County, Ark.
