The Kitsap County Aug. 2 primary election results were officially certified Aug. 16, Kitsap County Elections Division reported.
Christopher Tibbs, Republican challenger for the Kitsap County Commissioner Position 2 seat, maintained his lead over incumbent Charlotte Garrido, a Democrat.
Tibbs earned 44.1 percent of the vote, a total of 7,159 votes. Garrido earned 37.3 percent, or 6,052 votes. Also running for the position were Democrat Dino Davis, with 10.5 percent of the vote; and independent Roger Gay, with 8.1 percent, both of whom trailed far behind Tibbs and Garrido.
Tibbs and Garrido will face off on election day, Tuesday, Nov. 8.
For Kitsap County Commissioner Position 1, Robert Gelder, a Democrat, continues to run unopposed. He received 15,071 votes, or 96.4 percent. Write-in candidates accounted for the remaining 3.6 percent (555 votes).
Also on the primary ballot was the Legislative District 23 State Senate seat, for which incumbent Christine Rolfes, a Democrat, is running unopposed, earning 96.1 percent of the vote, or 22,794. Write-in candidates earned 3.9 percent, or 914 votes.
For the same legislative district, State Representative positions 1 and 2 were on the primary ballot.
For Position 1, there were four candidates on the primary ballot. Democrat Sherry Appleton dominated the race, earning 53.8 percent of the vote, or 16,475 votes. Also advancing will be Republican Lorette Byrnes, who earned 25.7 percent, or 7,870 votes. Also running were April Ferguson, a Republican, with 13.1 percent or 4,021 votes; and Jack Carroll, a Democrat, with 7.2 percent or 2,208 votes.
Democrat Drew Hansen was the only candidate for Position 2 of that district. He earned 96 percent of the vote, or 22,258 votes. Write-in candidates accounted for the remaining 4 percent (930 votes).
Legislative District 26 had two state representative positions on the primary ballot as well.
Position 1 included a four-way race, in which Jesse Young, the incumbent Republican, won by a small margin with 36.5 percent of the vote, or 5,196 votes. Larry Seaquist, was registered as an Independent Democrat, followed close behind with 34.9 percent, or 4,968 votes. Alec Matias, Democrat, earned 15.3 percent, or 2,178 votes; and Bill Scheidler, Republican, earned 13.3 percent, or 1,894 votes.
Position 2 had only two candidates on the ballot: Michelle Caldier, incumbent Republican, who earned 56.4 percent or 7,862 votes; and Randy Spitzer, an Independent Dem., with 43.4 percent or 6,050 votes.
Legislative District 35 Position 1 had two candidates on the ballot, including Dan Griffey, incumbent Republican, who earned 54.9 percent or 4,328 votes; and Irene Bowling, an Independent Dem., with 44.8 percent or 3,530 votes.
Position 2 also featured only two candidates: Drew MacEwen, incumbent Republican, with 55.6 percent or 4,331 votes; and Craig Patti, an Independent Democrat, with 44.1 percent or 3,436 votes.
The top two candidates for each position will advance to the general election. Election day this year is Nov. 8.
