A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputy provided bomb squad assistance to a Washington State Trooper June 30 in Grays Harbor County.

The deputy was called upon at 1:45 p.m. to Grayland Beach State Park and the park ranger said that an unknown person located the item on the beach and dropped it off at the ranger station. The item was a C2A1 marine location marker, which was transported to a safe location on the beach and counter charged. The marker is a buoyant smoke and flame-producing device, which is primarily used in anti-submarine warfare operations. Some that wash up on shore have been known to ignite back up without warning burning at an extremely high temperature.
