A 54 year old Central Kitsap man is dead after suffering multiple stab wounds in an assault that occurred at a residence in the 8500 block of Covina Loop NE in East Bremerton. According to the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office, the man’s 55 year old wife is suspected to be responsible for the killing and is being treated for severe burns and smoke inhalation at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Police said she is not in custody at this time.

Deputies from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Covina Loop address at 11:41a.m. on Sunday morning in response to a reported stabbing. A neighbor called to report that the victim had been stabbed and stumbled across the road to their residence for help. The neighbor performed first aid while waiting for medics and law enforcement to arrive.

Deputies arrived six minutes after the call and found the victim being treated on the front porch of the neighbor’s residence. Medics arrived two minutes later and transported the victim to Harrison Hospital in Silverdale in preparation for airlift to Harborview. However, the victim died at the hospital.

While on scene, smoke was observed coming from the residence where the assault had occurred. Firefighters from Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue were able to extinguish the blaze quickly and found the victim’s wife lying inside the home. She was removed and transported to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton before ultimately being airlifted to Harborview Medical Center where she remains.

Detectives from the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene and conducted numerous interviews of neighbors and acquaintances of the two involved. Detectives spoke with a woman who witnessed the assault from a distance and determined that the victim’s wife was responsible for his injuries.

Detectives obtained a search warrant and entered the home where they found numerous ignition sites where the fire was started inside. Detectives were also able to retrieve what is suspected to be the murder weapon.

The location where this crime occurred is coincidentally in the general area where 6-year-old Jenise Wright was found murdered three weeks ago, but sheriff’s office detectives want to emphasize that there is absolutely no connection between the two incidents.
