Strangulation, assault

Bail was set at $580,000 for a 22-year-old Bremerton man charged with five crimes in Kitsap County Superior Court Jan. 24.

He’s charged with second-degree assault strangulation, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful possession of a firearm (each 10 years in prison, $20,000 in fines maximum); and harassment threat to kill (5 years, $10,000 fine).

Court documents show that Kitsap deputies responded Jan. 23 at 10:31 p.m. to the 2800 block of Fircrest Drive SE. The victim said her ex-boyfriend put a gun to her head and “choked her out.” He shook her so her head hit the side of a vehicle and stated he was going to kill her. She ran across the street and hid behind a tree.

Meanwhile, a witness was walking his dog, who started barking at the suspect, who threatened to kill both of them as well.

The suspect was later arrested and taken to the Kitsap jail in Port Orchard.

Man finds keys in boots, burglarizes home

A 40-year-old Bainbridge Island man was in Superior Court Jan. 21 charged with two counts of unlawful possession on a firearm.

Bail was $50,000. He faces 20 years in prison and $40,000 in fines.

Court records show the suspect was arrested by BI police at Jan. 17 at 8:14 p.m. at Bucklin Hill Road and Blakely Avenue. Neighbors said someone was at a home who shouldn’t have been there. When officers arrived he told them he did have permission to be there. The suspect apparently found keys to the home in boots outside.

Officers later found out the suspect had pawned multiple items, including some jewelry and some guns. The suspect is a convicted felon and is not supposed to have guns.

Teen attacks, threatens to kill officers

A 19-year-old Port Orchard woman was in Superior Court Jan. 22 charged with assaulting an officer.

The penalty is five years in prison and $10,000 in fines. Bail was $51,500.

Court documents say Bremerton police responded to the 5000 block of Kitsay Way at 12:34 a.m. Jan. 22. A vehicle was going 52 mph in a 35 mph zone on icy roads. The woman told him to get the spotlight out of her face, and when he said no and tried to explain the process she started her car and rolled up the window. The officer opened the door, and she tried to close it on him. He said he’d have to remove her from the vehicle if she didn’t stop. She swung at him and said, “Get the f—- away from me.”

He told her he was going to have to remove her from the car. He unbuckled her seatbelt and asked her to step out as she struggled and kicked him in the chest. He took the key out of the ignition. She locked the door on him, but he was able to unlock it with the key. He put her in a hair hold, but she held on to the inside of the vehicle with her arms and legs.

Another officer helped get her into handcuffs. She was placed in a patrol car but she quickly exited, continuing to swear at officers. She slipped her hands out of the handcuffs, even at their tightest setting. Other officers arrived, and they had to push her to the ground. She kept scratching officers with her long fingernails. She was put in leg restraints and plastic flex cuffs.

On the way to jail she yelled explicit sexual insults, swear words and threatened to kill officers.

Attacker thwarts attempt to use Siri to call 911

A 19-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Jan. 21 charged with assault and interference with reporting domestic violence.

He faces 11 years in prison and $55,000 in fines.

Court records say Kitsap deputies responded Jan. 17 at 1 p.m. to the SE Fenton Road. A woman said her boyfriend assaulted her. First he choked her then threw her down on the bed, when she hit her head on the frame. She used the Siri feature on her watch to call 911. But he ripped the watch off so the call wasn’t completed.

A second offense occurred Jan. 1 when he yelled at her and waved a gun around. He threatened to pistol whip her. She tried to use the watch feature then, but he also ripped it off her.

Man rams vehicle with baby inside

A 49-year-old Poulsbo man was in Superior Court Jan. 27 charged with second-degree assault, along with hit and run.

Bail was $255,000. He faces 11 years in prison and $25,000 in fines.

Court documents say Kitsap deputies responded to the 23000 block of Gunderson Road in Poulsbo at 2:38 p.m. Jan. 25. While turning into a gas station, a woman in one vehicle yelled, “You’re going the wrong way.” A driver in another vehicle said, “I’ll show you the wrong way” then rammed that vehicle. There was a baby in the victim vehicle.

Man kicks officer after hitting women

A 27-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Jan. 27 charged with third degree assault of an officer and two other counts of assault.

Bail was $65,000. He faces seven years in prison and $30,000 in fines.

Court papers say Bremerton police responded Jan. 26 at 11:17 a.m. to the 800 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way. The suspect said he was arguing with his girlfriend when she started punching him. A woman who was a witness called him a name, then he tripped on concrete and a man began beating him.

The witness later said the suspect pushed her to the ground when she tried to intervene. The victim said she was pregnant with the suspect’s baby. Another witness said she saw the suspect hit both women numerous times. The suspect then resisted arrest a few times before being taken to the ground by officers. He kicked one in the knee. The suspect was put in leg restraints and taken to jail.

Knives on floor, hidden in visor

A 43-year-old Port Angeles man was in Superior Court Jan. 23 with bail set at $60,000 after being charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

He faces 10 years in prison and a $60,000 fine.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Jan. 22 at 4:30 p.m. to the 9900 block of Mickelberry Road NW in Silverdale. The deputy saw a truck with no license plate. The steering wheel was dismantled. There was a knife on the floor and another concealed in the visor. Two containers on the floor contained meth. He said he borrowed the vehicle, but it was stolen.

The owner of the truck in Poulsbo said it was stolen Jan. 16.

She thought car may have been stolen

A 26-year-old Puyallup woman was in Superior Court Jan. 21 charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

She faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. Bail was $50,000.

Court records show Kitsap deputies responded Jan. 20 to the 10300 block of Silverdale Way at 2:49 p.m. A vehicle with no license plates was in a parking lot, and it came back stolen. A woman said the man who was also in the car gave it to her. She had a key. She thought it might be stolen so she took off the plates. She was living in the car because it was cold. Two trip permits were forgeries.

A 40-year-old Port Orchard man was charged with the same crime.

All the signs of a car theft

A 43-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Jan. 21 charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.

Bail was $55,000. He faces 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.

Court papers say Port Orchard police went to the 1900 block of SE Sedgwick Road Jan. 18 at 2:45 p.m. An officer saw a stolen vehicle in a parking lot. A man was slumped over in the car, and the vehicle identification number was covered with paper. The officer’s report says that’s a common thing car thieves do. The suspect said he borrowed the car from a friend but could not provide a name. The ignition on the steering column was torn apart, another thing thieves do to hot wire a vehicle.

You’re not supposed to have a weapon

A 42-year-old Snoqualmie man was in Superior Court Jan. 21 charged with possession of a firearm.

Bail was $50,000. He faces 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.

Court documents show Kitsap deputies responded Jan. 19 at 11:55 p.m. to the 1400 block of NE McWilliams Road. A taillight was out on a vehicle, and when the deputy checked it had the wrong license plate on it. Another deputy looked in the vehicle and saw a green handgun. The suspect said he forgot about it. The suspect has a burglary conviction and is not supposed to have any weapons.
