More than 40 different organizations collaborated in this year’s planning of the Kitsap County Veterans Day event.
The community is invited to attend the event to “Honor All Who Serve” on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Pavilion, 1200 N.W. Fairgrounds Road in Bremerton.
The pavilion will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. for viewing of the displays. The formal ceremony is set for 10:30-11:45 a.m.
Rear Adm. Timothy Giardina, Commander, Submarine Group Trident, will serve as the keynote speaker and Rear Adm. James Symonds, Commander, Navy Region Northwest, also will address the audience. Congressman Jay Inslee, will be in attendance and The Knights of Columbus and the Kitsap Battalion Naval Sea Cadets will perform the color guard duties. There will be a ceremonial ringing of the bell and Gold Star families will be recognized. The program will conclude with a rifle salute provided by active duty Marine Corps personnel and Taps will be performed by the Navy Band Northwest to conclude the ceremony.
Crazy Eric’s Drive-In will provide free food in the pavilion immediately after the ceremony as a way of saying thanks to veterans. The Knights of Columbus and local Boy Scouts will collect tattered American flags for proper disposal.
The Peninsula Pipes & Drum band will perform immediately before the ceremony begins. The West Sound Military Vehicle Preservation Club will have various antique military vehicles on display. The Submarine Veterans Vets submarine parade float will be on display and Dale Nitz will be on hand to answer questions about his vast collection of military memorabilia. Motorcycle riding veterans will be out in full force and will depart from Legend Harley-Davidson at 9625 Provost Road N.W. in Silverdale at 9:30 a.m., and ride to the Kitsap County Fairgrounds to show their support of the troops and veterans.
