Dolores Gilmore, long-time elections manager for Kitsap County, has announced her campaign kick-off event to launch her bid for county auditor. The event will be at Hale’s Alehouse in Silverdale on Wednesday, April 2, from 5:30 to 7:00pm. The public is encouraged to attend.
Numerous elected officials, along with current and former Auditors from around the State, have endorsed Gilmore’s candidacy.
Walt Washington, who holds the seat now, is retiring at the end of this year, and is delighted Gilmore has decided to run.
“I step away from office with 100 percent confidence that Dolores, as my successor, is the best fit for Kitsap County,” he said. “Her knowledge, leadership and experience have prepared her to advance and build on the good government philosophies of my administration and those of my predecessor, Karen Flynn.”
Gilmore has 30 years of experience working for the county and has held several management positions in the auditor’s office. She has been a certified Elections Administrator since 2005. She has applied for and received grants totaling over $500,000 to improve election and voter registration equipment and services and has administered over 80 elections and 21 successful re-counts.
Gilmore said she is committed to ensuring “one of the most basic rights of our democracy works as intended, which is the power of the vote belongs to the people, not to a government agency, and how elections are administered matters.”
