The county has established a phone number for residents to report water pollution as it happens, including spills into drains.

Storm drains are designed to help keep streets and properties from flooding with rainwater, but unlike the sewers, storm drains are not connected to treatment plants. Some spills that should be reported are: paint, gasoline, oil, chemicals, muddy runoff, sewage, suds, yard waste and trash.

The water pollution hotline is (360) 337-5777. County employees will answer calls between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. during the week. Callers can remain anonymous and can leave a message if after hours.
