Kitsap ferry supporters to rally in Olympia

Organizers from ferry-served communities hope to bring a flood of citizens to Olympia Wednesday as a show of support for a proposed “Plan C,” for Washington State Ferries.

The “Save Our Ferries” rally will begin at 11:30 a.m. on the north steps of the capitol.

Keynote speakers will include elected officials from cities and counties around Puget Sound. Bainbridge Mayor Darlene Kordonowy and City Council member Hilary Franz are expected to attend.

A draft of Plan C which provides an alternative to Washington State Ferries’ proposed long-range plans, will be presented to various legislators.

“We’re not going down there with our hands out. We’re going down there with something in our hands,” Ferry Community Partnership organizer Debbi Lester said.

Also in Olympia Wednesday, the state Transportation Commission will review the final version of its long-term ferry finance study at its regular meeting (see agenda). The commission is expected to present that plan to the Legislature in early March.
