Five Kitsap families who can trace their history back 100 years or more will be honored Sept. 18 at the Third Annual Heritage Family Banquet.

Selected from nominations received, these families have made significant contributions to their community over the past generations spanning at least a century. An important criteria is still having family members residing in Kitsap County.

The Karl Oskar Holmberg Family, of South Kitsap, will join four other heritage familes — James Wesley Bryan Family of Bremerton, McBride/Albertson/Tjosdale Family representing Bainbridge Island, James A. Thompson Family representing North Kitsap, and the Dr. Francis Harlow Family representing Central Kitsap.

The banquet will feature Leonard Forsman, chair of the Suquamish Tribe and member of the President’s Advisory Council on Historic Preservation as the keynote speaker and Frank Shiers, anchor for KIRO Radio (97.3 FM) as emcee.

A photo history of the family with taped excerpts from family members will be followed by an awards ceremony.
