The Kitsap Humane Society has named Jamie Nocula and Dr. Jen Stonequist as executive directors after sharing the position the past year.
Nocula will be focused on the day-to-day operations and fundraising, while Stonequist will concentrate on animal welfare and the medical side.
The agency has excelled the past year raising over $10 million and opening its Lifesaving Center, which serves low-income families. It also opened Big Animal Barn, where animal control officers temporarily house stray or neglected livestock.
“It’s an unusual arrangement to have dual executive directors,” said KHS board president Dr. Scott Menard, “but Jamie and Dr. Jen each bring such outstanding talents to the job and complement each other so well, it was the obvious and perfect decision for the good of the shelter.”
Additionally, the pair has shepherded several partnerships. The organization was recently named a grantee of the PetSmart Charities Accelerator Access to Veterinary Care Program, through which KHS will receive funding as well as consulting, mentoring and support tools. KHS has also been named one of two ambassadors statewide for the Greater Goods Charities GOODS program. The shelter will act as a distribution hub through which local charities will receive donations of thousands of pounds of food for pets and people each year.
Nocula joined the team in 2021 as the director of philanthropy. She was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, attended The Evergreen State College, and resides in Silverdale with her family, including two rescue dogs. Stonequist has been with KHS since 2011. She started out her animal welfare career over 20 years ago at a shelter in Florida. She lives in Bremerton with her partner and a rescue pup.
KHS is a private, nonprofit, charitable organization caring for animals in need since 1908. For details go to www.kitsap-humane.org.
