Most Kitsap County residents may have noticed a drop in the assessed value of their property compared to last year following a notice sent by the county assessor’s office.
Notices mailed out last week let residents know they are likely going to see a 4 to 7 percent drop in the value of their property compared to January 2009, according to a statement from the assessor’s office.
Residents living in the Central Kitsap Urban Growth Area may see the widest variation, partly because properties there were inspected before this year’s values were set.
Despite this year’s reduction, the assessor’s office does not expect another similar drop next year.
The new values are also posted at the assessor’s website at www.kitsapgov.com/assr under assessor data and value history.
Anyone wanting to appeal the 2010 value will have 60 days to file with the County Board of Equalization. Appellants should first contact the assessor’s office at (360) 337-7160 for a review.
