Sheriff’s patrol deputies will be on-hand tomorrow within three of the county’s school districts as schools prepare to release students for winter break.

Off-duty sheriff’s deputies will return to duty for several hours to assist schools with a uniformed safety presence in light of last week’s tragic events in Newtown, Conn., and also due to world-wide discussion concerning the date, Dec. 21, and its association with the Mayan calendar.

On-duty patrol deputies will perform their regular assigned shift duties and respond to 911 calls for service.

Deputies will be present in high schools, middle schools and some elementary schoolswithin the North Kitsap, Central Kitsap and South Kitsap school districts.

Additionally, sheriff’s detectives have been investigating a rumor concerning threats of violence that are alleged to occur tomorrow in certain North Kitsap schools. The Sheriff’s office has deemed these rumors to be unsubstantiated and not credible.

Sheriff Steve Boyer, and the sheriff’s patrol chief and chief of detectives say they are committed to closely working with the county’s school districts to better provide a safer learning environment for students, faculty and staff.
