Carissa Daniels, a voice advocating for domestic violence victims, the homeless and the impoverished, has been selected to represent Washington State at the National All American Pageant this October in New Jersey.
Daniels previously competed at All American Nationals in 2008, winning the National Talent Title, All American Woman Talent 2009, using her domestic violence survivor/education monologue.
Daniels, a senior at Seattle University, will use the doors open to titleholders to continue to support the vulnerable, influence public policy legislatively and work with the media to educate on important issues. Her background is as a Domestic Violence Victim Advocate.
Daniels also volunteers in conjunction with the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Raise Up Washington and progressive politics. She has interned with Firesteel (part of the YWCA of Seattle/King County) and was named a Kitsap County YWCA Woman of Achievement in 2009 for her volunteer work with domestic violence victims globally.
All American is a platform based competition, with interview scores comprising 50 percent of the total, and an additional 25 percent for fashion-wear as well as 25 percent for evening gown. There is no competitive judging; scores are based solely on individual performance. The “Classic Woman” division is for women size 16 and up, age 40 and above. Daniels will also be competing for the community service optional competition.
Daniels is seeking sponsorship and donations to cover costs of participating; email cyberadvocate07@gmail.com.
