PORT ORCHARD — In late November, 18 South Kitsap School District teachers were named as recipients of funding from among $7,351 in grant money provided by the Kurt Wagner Education Fund.
The fund honors the memory of Dr. Kurt Wagner, a former South Kitsap educator, principal and deputy superintendent. In addition to funding teacher grants, KWEF also provides South Kitsap High and Discovery Alternative High student scholarships, elementary arts and music program support, and high school athletic support, said SKSD spokeswoman Amy Miller.
KWEF has awarded more than $92,000 over the last nine years, Miller said.
The grant winners from 10 schools were:
South Kitsap High School: Greg Pickard, Makena Foster and Douglas Urner; Discovery: Parminder Tolpa and Nora Gregerson; Cedar Heights Middle School: Kirsten Toth; Sedgwick Middle School: Katherine Wein; Whitman Middle School: Emily Fogle; South Colby Elementary: Donna Hollon; Orchard Heights Elementary: Mark Leshley; Manchester Elementary: Savannah Moyte, Callie Peet, Sarah Carey and Riley McDougal; Hidden Creek Elementary: Theresa Aguilera and Angela Narus; and Burley Glenwood Elementary: Emily Johnson.
