PORT ORCHARD — The Kurt Wagner Education Fund, represented by Laurie Wagner, Jane Douglas, Darek Grant and Port Orchard Mayor Rob Putaansuu, was recognized by the Washington Association of School Administrators April 13 with the Regional Community Leadership Award.
South Kitsap School District recognized the Kurt Wagner Fund members for their work in supporting students and teachers in the district.The ceremony for the Olympic Educational Service District 114 was staged at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino, with representatives from each school district in attendance.
Superintendent Karst Brandsma, Board President Greg Wall and Board Vice President Rebecca Diehl presented the award to the Kurt Wagner Education Fund officers.
The Kurt Wagner Education Fund operates in memory of Dr. Kurt Wagner, a former educator, principal and deputy superintendent, to support educational needs in the South Kitsap School District. In 2016, the Kurt Wagner Education Fund awarded four scholarships totaling $3,000, six classroom grants totaling $3,000, as well as $1,000 each to the South Kitsap music program and South Kitsap athletics.
