All federal, state, county and city buildings will be closed Sept. 1 in observance of Labor Day. South Kitsap School District school buildings and the district office will be closed for Labor Day. The district office and schools will reopen Sept. 2 at 8 a.m.

Also, all banks and financial institutions will be closed Monday, but will reopen for business on Sept. 2.

The Port Orchard Independent will be closed for Labor Day and will reopen for business on Sept. 2 at 8 a.m.

Kitsap County announced the Labor Day holiday will result in several changes for recycling and garbage services.

The Olalla Recycling and Garbage Facilities will be closed Sept. 1, along with the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility.
