KINGSTON — Members of the latest Leadership Kitsap class are building a kiosk and a storage shed for the P-patch garden at Kingston’s Village Green.

Working on the project are Amee Barlet, Olympic Educational Services District; Barb Dennis, Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office; Beccy Johnston, Watson Furniture; Paula Rimmer, Martha and Mary Health Center; and Kelly Sullivan, Port Gamble S’Klallam Tribe.

“We wanted to do something that would impact our area,” Johnston said. “We met with [the Village Green Metropolitan Park District board] and talked to them about what they were still needing, and this was something they were still looking for.”

The project is expected to be completed by the end of March and will feature pavers made by local students, Johnston said. “If we get children involved, they will want to nourish what they put in there.”

The kiosk, 11 by 12 feet, will be a teaching venue where master gardeners can instruct, shielded from sun and rain. the 14×8 shed will be used for storage of pots, tools and other gardening implements.

Companies and individuals that would like to help the project can call Johnston, (360) 930-2229.
