Girl Scouts young and old will come together next week to share memories and look toward the future of the organization.

The Girl Scouts of Western Washington Peninsula Leadership Luncheon is scheduled for Friday, May 8 at the Kitsap Conference Center at Bremerton Harborside. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

Peninsula Girl Scouts Area Manager Katie Brigati said the event is open to anyone who’d like to attend.

“There’s no cost, just a donation request of $85,” she said.

Brigati said the first $125 of a person’s donation will be matched by the Girl Scouts of Western Washington Challenge Fund.

All proceeds from the luncheon will benefit the new Peninsula Girl Scout Program Center.

The Girl Scouts moved out of their Warren Avenue office in East Bremerton in April and recently moved into their new location at 1600 NE Winters Road in East Bremerton.

“It’s really nice to have a space where girls can meet,” Brigati said of the new building. “This will be girl-filled all the time.”

Brigati said the new Peninsula Girl Scout Program Center is very girl-friendly and local Girl Scouts will feel comfortable and enjoy the facility.

“We’ll have community resources, all kinds of things at the program center,” she said.

Brigati said best-selling author Debbie Macomber and radio personality Delilah volunteered to participate in the Peninsula Leadership Luncheon and the Girl Scouts of Western Washington couldn’t be happier.

“These speakers actually volunteered, which is really, really remarkable,” Brigati said.

Macomber, who will be the luncheon’s guest speaker, has close ties to Girl Scouts. Her daughter and granddaughter have been involved with the organization.

Delilah will serve as the event emcee and Brigati said she credits her radio career to the Girl Scouts.

Brigati said Delilah’s Girl Scout troop visited a radio station when she was about 11 years old and then she decided to embark on a career in radio.

“Delilah doesn’t hide it that she owes her career to Girl Scouts,” she said.

Brigati said there has been a lot of interest in this year’s luncheon, so the Girl Scouts hope to raise a large amount of money to be put toward the Peninsula Girl Scout Program Center.

“We really haven’t set a goal because it’s very different than other years,” Brigati said. “We’ve had so much interest in this year. (The venue) can hold up to 400 people, so we’re hoping to get that many.”
