Local producer/director making video to support Bremerton Fire.

Many firefighters have interesting stories to tell.

And local producer/director Rick Foxworth is traveling from fire station to fire station listening to the funny, frightening and memorable tales of Bremerton firefighters.

Foxworth, of Broad Sword Video Productions in Bremerton, is making a film about the Bremerton Fire Department (BFD). It will chronicle the history of the department and highlight some of the firefighters’ memorable stories and experiences throughout the years.

“Some of it will be narrated and the other part I want to have as a spoken history,” Foxworth said.

Proceeds from the DVD sales will go to Bremerton’s International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 437 charity account set up to support the families of firefighters injured or killed in the line of duty.

Foxworth met with Bremerton Fire Marshal Scott Rappleye several months ago and discussed making the BFD history DVD.

The pair agreed the film was worth making and Foxworth got to work.

Foxworth has been working on the film for a couple weeks and said the film won’t be completed for quite some time.

“Right now we’re getting a bunch of funny stories,” he said. “Right now it’s still kind of new. This isn’t something that is going to be done in a couple months.”

Foxworth has worked with the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters for many years and has filmed some meetings for BFD. He’s also won a couple awards for his work with the state firefighters’ organization.

Foxworth said he respects firefighters and the work they do each and every day. He added that he and other people view them as heroes because they work hard to save people’s lives.

“When you work with them, you find out they just really want to help people,” he said. “The problem with firefighters is they don’t think they’re heroes, they’re just doing their job.”

Foxworth doesn’t just want to talk to firefighters. He said he would like the public’s voice to be heard in the film.

Foxworth is looking for people who’ve been helped or “saved” by Bremerton firefighters to take part in the film.

“From that perspective you really get to see what they do,” he said.

He also is looking for retired Bremerton firefighters to share their stories, old photos and memorabilia.
