Local b-boys looking to dance for dollars once again

This will not be the first donation breakdance contest Dedric Davis has been a part of.

The first-ever “Breakin’ It Down For A Cause” event took place in a Silverdale parking garage Sept. 5, according to Davis, and the $600-plus raised went to a very worthy cause.

Davis’ friend and fellow breakdancer, Axel “Ace” Lovinaria, was diagnosed in the summer with Aplastic Anemia, a condition where bone marrow does not produce sufficient new cells to replenish blood cells.

Lovinaria, a Bremerton High School senior, endured chemotherapy to initiate a bone marrow transplant. The operation successfully transfered healthy bone marrow from his brother, but left the family with a pile of medical bills.

“Our motivation for this event is to help Ace with the ability to pay for the medical bills,” Davis said. “And to have fun breakdancing of course.”

With the next event, “Breakin’ It Down For A Cause Two,” planned and scheduled, Davis is hoping to attract even bigger crowds this time around.

The battle is slated for 5-10:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8 in the Bremer Student Center on Olympic College’s Bremerton campus at 1600 Chester Ave. Davis said they will take donations for the entry fee into the contest.
