Local gymnasts to compete in Texas

Olympic Gymnastics Center has sent students to the competitive event for five year straight

Three gymnasts from Olympic Gymnastics Center in Silverdale have qualified to compete in the 2014 National TOPs testing in Texas this weekend at the National Training Center.

They are Cara Schweitzer, 10, of Silverdale, Chelsea Hallinana, 9, of Bainbridge Island and Mya Wiley, 8, of Silverdale.

This is the fifth year that OGC has sent gymnasts to this prestigious testing, according to coach Greg Mutchler. More than 3,000 girls in the nation participated in state-wide testing vying for the 300 spots in the competition in Texas.

At the National Training Center competition, gymnasts who score the highest will make either TOPs A or TOPs B teams. Only 50 girls will be accepted into each team.
