POULSBO — Next weekend, six young women from the North Kitsap area will be vying for the chance to wear the Miss Poulsbo crown in 2005.
And a share of $25,050 in scholarship money among 20 contestants in the Miss Poulsbo/Miss Kitsap Pageant, which will begin at 4 p.m. March 26 at the Bremerton High School performing arts center.
This is the 51st year a Miss Poulsbo will be crowned and the third year a Miss Kitsap will be crowned under the Miss Poulsbo Organization. Both titleholders will compete in the Miss Washington Pageant, the winner of which advances to the Miss America competition.
The 2005 Miss Poulsbo Contestants are:
• Alison Amend of Poulsbo, daughter of Ramona and Rodney Amend. Amend, 18, is a senior at North Kitsap High School with plans to study architecture at Washington State University.
Amend will perform a lyrical dance to “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing†for her talent. She has chosen “Suicide Prevention and Awareness†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Ellingsen Construction, S&S Security and Corey Signs Co.
• Lauren Patterson of Poulsbo, daughter of Ruby and Michael Patterson. Patterson, 17, is a senior at North Kitsap High School who plans to study entrepreneurship at Washington State University.
Patterson will sing “Walking After Midnight†by Patsy Cline as her talent. She has chosen “Importance of Mentoring†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Bad Blanche, Sherry’s Piano and Poulsbo Compounding Pharmacy.
• Erinn Bartlett of Poulsbo, daughter of Joanne and Steve Bartlett. Bartlett, 18, is a North Kitsap High School senior with plans on obtaining a degree in interior design with a minor in cosmetology after high school.
Bartlett will perform contemporary ballet to “Needle in the Hay†for her talent. She has chosen “Supporting Arts in Education†as her platform.
She is sponsored by Dairy Queen, Miller Bay Water Company and Liberty Bay Danceworks.
• Janna Murray of Poulsbo, daughter of Kerry and Chuck Murray. Murray, 19, is a North Kitsap High School graduate currently studying communication and performing arts at Edmonds Community College.
Murray will sing “I Am Changing†for her talent. She has chosen “Mentoring Their Passions†as her platform.
She is sponsored by J’aime Les Crepes, Rosario’s Salon and A Gifted Touch Massage.
• Brenna Gardner-Brown of Poulsbo, daughter of Rebecca and Mathew Gardner-Brown. Gardner-Brown, 17, is a senior at Klahowya Secondary School and participates in Running Start at Olympic College. She plans to study business administration at the University of Washington.
Gardner-Brown will perform a tap dance to “Showstopper†for her talent. She has chosen “Volunteerism — Think Globally Act Locally†as her platform.
She is sponsored by P.S.W. Electric, Scott & Heidi Wakefield, Tim Capogna, Susan Smith and Tracy Brown.
• Marissa Whelan of Suquamish, daughter of Peggy and Brian Whelan. Whelan, 19, is a North Kitsap High School graduate and a current Olympic College student studying vocal performance and music composition.
Whelan will sing “Can’t Help Lovin’ Dat Man†for her talent. She has chosen “Project America†as her platform.
