Most Sundays during the fall, patrons gather at the Hi-Tide Bar and Grill to watch and cheer on their favorite football team — the Seattle Seahawks.

But before last Sunday’s game against the New York Giants,Terry Donalson and Bernie Lawrence were in the kitchen whipping up omelets and Belgian waffles to help collect toys and donations for needy families during the holidays.

This was the third year that Donalson and Lawrence have held the breakfast to collect toys and money for Toys For Tots.

Beginning at 9 a.m., patrons began strolling in with toys or cash donations for the project in exchange for a tasty breakfast served up by men, who work at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Kelly Donalson said her husband and Lawrence, both longtime Port Orchard residents, served more than 60 breakfasts last year.

Michelle Edwards, the bar’s manager, said this year the men served 70 break- fasts and received more than $275 in cash donations.

Warren “Mac” and Janelle McMannamy, Hi-Tides owners, were at the breakfast to support the men’s efforts.

“They come in and do all the prep work for the fun- draiser. I don’t have to do nothing,” laughed Janelle McMamnamy. “They even cooked me breakfast.”

The night before the breakfast, Hi-Tide was the scene of another event — the Hi-Tide Christmas Party — to help raised money for South Kitsap Helpline. Guest bartenders served customers and all the tips went to the organization. “We haven’t counted all

the money (as for Sunday) for this year, but last year we raised about $800,” McMannamy said. “Last night, this place was packed with people.”
