SILVERDALE — Sixteen year-old Emily Ramm wanted to get a better view of the Perseid meteor shower last Saturday night, Aug. 13. So she and a friend, Raj Raman, decided to climb onto the roof of Silverdale Elementary School, which has been undergoing remodeling since July 2015.
Tragically, she became the falling star when she fell from a tall ladder at the construction site, suffering a severe brain injury along with numerous fractures.
Raman brought Ramm to the Harrison Medical Center emergency room around 1:50 a.m. After receiving immediate lifesaving care there, Ramm was airlifted to Tacoma General Hospital in Pierce County, where she passed away Sunday morning.
Ramm, who would have been a high school junior this year, is survived by her mother Clara Hartwell; father John Ramm; sisters Leah Ramm, Darcy McGuire and Ivy McGuire; brothers David Ramm, Jacob McGuire and Joey Ramm; and her aunts, uncles and grandparents.
Her family, who live in North Kitsap outside Poulsbo, have arranged for her kidneys and liver be donated to another as “she loved to help others,” said a family spokesperson.
A celebration of life service for Ramm will be Aug. 27 at North Kitsap High School in the auditorium. A gofundme account (www.gofundme.com/2jps7ks/donate) has been set up to help the family pay for the service and other costs related to her passing.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office was notified of the incident around 3:30 a.m. Aug. 14. Sheriff’s spokesman Scott Wilson said deputies are still investigating why Ramm was on the property, how she gained access to the construction site, who was involved and how she fell.
Wilson said after the investigation is completed, it will be sent to the Kitsap County Prosecuting Office, where prosecutors will determine if further action should be taken in the case.
