A wide range of free services and goods will be offered to local veterans and their families at the Kitsap County 2008 Fall Stand Down from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1 at the Presidents Hall at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds.
Free services including clothing, hot lunches, immunizations, VA claims, emergency blankets, haircuts, counseling, eye glasses, enrollment in the VA health program and dental work in a mobile dental van. Veterans are those who have served at least six months on active duty and have an honorable discharge.
National Guard and Reservists who have served in Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom or Operation Enduring Freedom or awarded a Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal should attend to see about special benefits through the Washington State Department of Veteran Affairs.
Vietnam veterans who have cancer or diabetes also may be eligible for special benefits.
For faster processing, veterans should bring several copies of their DD214 or certificate of discharge. Verification of military service will be available for those who do not have DD214s or discharge papers.
