OLALLA — Six local area youth music bands will join forces in an attempt to collect food donations for the Gig Harbor FISH food bank and the South Kitsap Helpline food bank in preparation for the holiday season.

Donations of non-perishable food items will be collected at the Olalla Community Club from 12-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16 during “Rock the Club” food drive.

In tough economic times, everyone needs hope, especially during the holiday season. The local food banks provide food to thousands of people each month and nearly half are children. In an effort to help the local food banks Resisting Ordinary will host a music event in which food donations will be collected for admission.

The goal is to provide meals for 200 or more families this holiday season.

The event was conceived by Vivian Gonzales and Kari Estes, both 14, who wanted a way to give back to their community.

They took their idea to their band, Resisting Ordinary, and then obtained support from their parents. After that the band members began inviting other area bands to participate. Joe Wilson and Andy Massagli found out about the music event and procured sponsorship from Ted Brown Music Outreach.

Local youth bands will perform for the public with the cost of admission being three non-perishable food items or $3 per person.
