Tree roots from newly-logged trees are pulled up at the former Westpark site Tuesday near the corner of Kitsap Way and Arsenal Way. The logging taking place along the busy arterial in the past couple weeks is part of the clearing project that has been happening for the past year-and-a-half to make way for the $300 million Bay Vista residential and retail development currently under construction, said Kurt Wiest, executive director of the Bremerton Housing Authority. Money made from selling the lumber goes into the construction of the development. Excavators have been tearing down about two vacated Westpark buildings per day. Townhouses in an 83-unit complex are available for pre-leasing and will be ready for move-in in May. A 68-unit building along Oyster Bay Avenue will be complete this summer.
