Two measures expected to be decided by the Bremerton City Council Wednesday could lead to longer downtown parking times and new licensing requirements for landlords.

The first measure would add the option of establishing three-hour parking spots downtown, proposed by a downtown parking committee earlier in the summer. Currently the spots are designated from 30 minutes to two hours.

City Council President Nick Wofford said he expects the parking limits for most downtown spots to be increased if the measure passes. Allowing drivers to park for three hours will better accommodate out-of-town visitors who want to explore downtown and visit restaurants and shops, Wofford said.

The other measure would require rental owners to purchase a business license for each property they own. Currently, landlords are required to obtain one license, regardless of how many properties they own.

A measure that would have required landlords to purchase a $65 license for each property was postponed in June to allow for more feedback from rental owners. Since that time, Wofford said he has not heard much input from the owners. However, each license purchased after the initial $65 license would cost $25 in Wofford’s updated proposal.
