Loud boom heard in Bremerton as Port Orchard home explodes

BREMERTON - A loud boom sound rang throughout Bremerton around 4 a.m. Feb. 23 after a Port Orchard home exploded.

BREMERTON – A loud boom sound rang throughout Bremerton around 4 a.m. Feb. 23 after a Port Orchard home exploded.

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue confirmed there was an explosion at a residential structure which leveled the building. The resulting fire has been contained. The cause of the explosion is unknown and is under investigation by the Kitsap County Fire Marshal.

The home was located in the 3500 block of SE Soholt Lane, according to Kitsap County Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Wilson. Wilson said that the two occupants of the home have not been accounted for yet, and said firefighters decided to wait until daylight to go further into the home.

Ramiller Lane SE is closed between SE Mullenix Road and SE Scofield Road due to the emergency response. No estimate was given as to when the road will reopen.
